Philadelphia
Site of New Corset Boutique
Phillyist was privileged to attend the grand opening shebang of Delicious
Boutique, Delicious Corsets’ new home in Northern Liberties.
The store is tucked away in a recently developed shopping area just
off American street; initially, we thought we were hopelessly lost because
it’s so off the beaten path. However, when the sign hove into
view on the shopping area walkway, we gratefully huddled into the warm
inside.
A spooky circus theme pervades, enhanced by colorful paint and carny
music. For the opening, they also had scheduled a band and were providing
snacks and cups of wine. Overall, the environment was quite festive.
But enough of the unimportant stuff – let’s get to the products.
Delicious Corsets make absolutely the highest quality corsets money
can buy. Phillyist is a big fan of corsets; while waist-training strikes
us as a bit extreme, corsets are an undeniable fashion force. Additionally,
not only are corsets plus-size-friendly, in fact, we personally feel
they look better on girls with flesh than on the fashion-waifs.
They had a wall full of gorgeous ready-to-wear corsets and waist-cinchers
in a wide variety of sizes, lush colors, and styles. These are not underwear;
articles of clothing this beautiful are meant to be seen and admired.
The wall of corsets served a dual purpose. Not only was everything there
for sale, but they also serve as inspiration for another aspect of Delicious’
business, custom-made corsets. Not only can you design your own corset,
but it gets made to your exact measurements, resulting in a perfect
fit that you could never get off the rack.
Quality like this does not come cheap. The ready-to-wear corsets vary
from $275 to about $400, and there’s no extra charge for custom.
However, if you’re interested in corsets, you might as well go
all the way; crappy corsets are no one’s friend. Besides, there
was a limited supply of clearance corsets, up to 50% off.
In addition to their incredible corsets, they also had some handmade
leather bags, and a selection of lovely hipster, goth, and counter-culture
wear. Particular favorites of Phillyist’s included a red &
black pin-up style dress with a gathered front for $125, a black and
white houndstooth kilt for $97, and a gorgeous bias-cut red velvet calf-length
skirt – a steal at $65.
You can visit Delicious Boutique on Liberties Walk, 1040 N. American
St., Unit #901, or you can browse and order through the Delicious Corsets
